Eleanor Wilkinson & Iliana Ortega-Alcázar presented some preliminary findings from their ESRC project at the  RGS-IBG annual international conference. Their talk was titled Single people’s housing vulnerability and the economies of abandonment‘. The paper addressed the issue of ‘forced house shares’ and the possible negative impacts this may have on health and wellbeing. The paper also outlined how the government’s fixation with ‘family-first’ policies often position those who are single (without dependent children) as less deserving of state support.

The presentation was part of a session of papers on the theme of ‘Housing and the Politics of Vulnerability’ organised by Dr Andrew Power (University of Southampton) and Mariela Gaete Reyes (Universidad de Chile).
